Crew Roles — racing a symmetric-spinnaker monohull
How Oh!‘s Olson 30 crew of six divides the work around the boat: five role stations for six bodies, and every maneuver broken down into tasks, each on its own page. The structure is the one that recurs across the J/24, J/105, Half Tonner and cruiser-racer fleets, adapted to a 30-foot ultra-light with a masthead symmetric kite launched and doused through the forward hatch.
Two ideas carry the whole system:
- Tasks are atomic. Each task page names its owner and describes the drill — so the org chart and the task library never drift apart.
- Pair-shared stations. Two crew staff the cockpit trim station (Trimmer and Breaker, swapping each tack) and two staff the aft cockpit (Helm and Tactician). Five stations, six people, every line owned.
Sections
- Six-Person Crew — the base arrangement: station map, role cards, and the full task library by race phase.
- Five-Person Crew — coming: the same task library folded into five bodies (the second trimmer leaves; the pair becomes one).
